behind the scenes of my first styled shoot with my soph/junior rep team

BTS: EMP Class of 2021 & 2022 Rep Team

Let’s talk about my new sophomore & junior rep team. I am so in love with the idea of this and I am super pumped for this next school year with them! I have 6 girls from different schools in the area & in both 10th & 11th grade. I am gonna tell y’all the goal for this group, about the first shoot & how I planned it, and the outcome!

First, What’s the goal of having a sophomore & junior rep team?

The goal is for them to gain insight on what it’s like being a senior representative for EMP, before their senior year. I guarantee all the girls spots on my senior rep team, once that time comes for them if they choose to work with me again, but during their senior year.

Second, All the details on their first styled shoot!

For their theme I went with “Shades of Blue” I had the girls wear whatever type of clothing, so jeans, dress, romper, skirt, anything! I made an inspiration board on Pinterest [SHADES OF BLUE INSPO BOARD] . Since it is Summer in Texas, I didnt want anymore to die of the heat, or get get rained on. So I went with a studio in Houston, that I love, called Superb Studio. As for props I went with a wooden letter board and decided to put “EMP REP TEAM” on it to indicate who they are, duh! I also had them bring an extra outfit for solo pictures, I didn’t care what it was and wanted them to have free range.

Third, the outcome!

Now what you want, to see the images! Here are a few group pictures thats are super cute of all of them in their Shades of Blue outfit!

Then we did a couple of individual portraits in an outfit of their choice!

As always much love!

5 styling tips for your senior pictures

Styling Tips for your Senior Pictures

When putting together your outfits for your senior session keep these tips in the back of your head!

These are my top 5 tips for all seniors.

When you are planning your senior pictures wear outfits that look good on you and make your feel confident! Don’t wear something that’s uncomfortable and thats not you. Let’s get into these tips!

TIP ONE

Accessorize your outfits with jewelry. When finalizing your outfits for your senior portraits think about jewelry that will help elevate your look. Maybe your outfit has a lot going on, then wear simple small hoops and dainty necklace.

TIP TWO

Bring tennis shoes if you are going to take pictures at a field. If you do decide to wear a long dress at a field, don’t wear flip flops or wedges. Wearing tennis shoes will protect your feet from the grass and mud if there is any and just everything in general. Your feet will most likely not be in the pictures and if they are depending on your outfit, your feet won’t be in the pictures if you don’t want them to. If you have a pair of sandals you want to be seen then do that last.

TIP THREE

Don’t know what to wear? Check out this previous blog post with last minute ideas. If you have a last minute outfit, because you don’t have enough for your senior session then add your special touch to it! Maybe add a prop to the outfit to add your personal touch to the classic outfit.

If you aren’t sure about a certain outfit, bring some classic outfits along!

TIP FOUR

Add hair accessories to an outfit! This has been such a huge trend and I am here for this one! I absolutely love hair scarfs, scrunchies, and hair clips. I love adding a matching hair scarf to an outfit and most stores have them. My favorite places to buy hair accessories from are Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, and Target.

TIP FIVE

Bring your high school sport to your senior session. If you were apart of sports, extra curricular, or clubs bring something from that to your senior session. If you have a lettermen, bring along your drumsticks or your softball glove. There are dozens of activities to be in throughout high school and it makes you who you are! Whenever I was in high school I was on the dance team, so I didn't , but I know of girls who took pictures in their uniforms at the football field. Maybe you don’t want to dedicated a whole outfit to your sport, just bring something as a prop!

EXTRA TIP

Don’t stress about your senior session and every outfit you have to bring! If you choose EMP we make this entire process a walk in the park. We have an entire senior pictures guide for our seniors. It’s super helpful and useful for all seniors no matter what. If you know already every single detail or have no clue where to start the EMP Senior Pictures Step by Step Guide help every senior.

behind a photographers workspace

My Workspace!

This weeks blog post is gonna be a little insight to my workspace.

Every Monday I sit at my desk and get all the things done, so this is what it looks like.

My workspace is by no means Pinterest worthy, but hopefully one day it will get there. I keep my desk very minimal and then have inspiration and the things I love the most hanging on the wall. There is also lots of organization and everything has its own place.

So as you can see there is a lot going on, but I love it. I try to keep the top of the desk clean and minimal, so I don’t get overwhelmed.

The desk, chair, and peg board are from IKEA (links are down below). Most of the organization on top of the desk is from TJ MAXX and Tuesday Morning. Mainly because it’s cheaper and super cute. I love home decor so much!! As for the cork board that was from the dollar spot at Target and then the picture frame is from Ikea as well. I love personalizing my desk, since I am doing work which isn’t always fun I think by having pictures of the ones I love makes things a little more happy. I love taking polaroids and having them on the cork board, I love having special memories attached to them. I do have a ton of pictures with Murph (my puppy) but I mean cmon he’s totally cute and i’m obsessed!

I have all of my go to notebooks and planner in the magazine holder and then all my pens, markers, and pencils in the holder on the right of the desk. Everything else is inside the desk, but I don’t use those things daily. Daily tasks are marking things off of my weekly to do list and checking emails and setting up any meetings or going to them if scheduled.

My main work days are Mondays and Wednesdays. I do all social media for my church, so that work is all done on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. But for my own business I do work on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Not always is this my workspace, I do go to local coffee shops and sometimes I babysit so those tend to be my workspace as well, but when I work from my desk I feel more comfortable.

I typically wake up around 6:30-7:30 a.m. and get my day started by making coffee and breakfast for me and my cute pup. After that we head back to my room and get a roll of the to do list. I mainly plan out my week and see when I need to get things done. This week for an example is pretty chill, last week I had met with my senior reps to plan their first styled shoot. So this week I am scheduling their shoot and booking the studio we will be using. I am heading out to Dallas with my boyfriend and so I had to make a packing list & grocery list for the trip, since we don’t want to spend a ton of money on fast food and junk. Other than planning for that, I just figured out times I will be coaching at my Crossfit gym. Also, this week I am planning out a trip possibly for the winter/fall and budgeting for my senior rep team.

That is kinda a break down into this week, there is so much more that I have to do, but those are the key to do’s I have to get done. Every week is about the same schedule and the to do’s just change by week. Every week I make a new blog post for the following week and there is always something to be done for this next year of seniors!! I started making a “Guide for EMP Seniors” so when seniors book with me, they have a guide they can refer to when going through their senior pictures process. I have made so many changes for seniors, just in the way I do things to make their experience 100x better! I am super excited for that even though it is still summer.

I will have links to some of the items on my desk if you are interested!

If you like this kind of content let me know! I will be starting to post weekly on the blog, so I want to know what y’all wanna see!
