5 styling tips for your senior pictures

Styling Tips for your Senior Pictures

When putting together your outfits for your senior session keep these tips in the back of your head!

These are my top 5 tips for all seniors.

When you are planning your senior pictures wear outfits that look good on you and make your feel confident! Don’t wear something that’s uncomfortable and thats not you. Let’s get into these tips!

TIP ONE

Accessorize your outfits with jewelry. When finalizing your outfits for your senior portraits think about jewelry that will help elevate your look. Maybe your outfit has a lot going on, then wear simple small hoops and dainty necklace.

TIP TWO

Bring tennis shoes if you are going to take pictures at a field. If you do decide to wear a long dress at a field, don’t wear flip flops or wedges. Wearing tennis shoes will protect your feet from the grass and mud if there is any and just everything in general. Your feet will most likely not be in the pictures and if they are depending on your outfit, your feet won’t be in the pictures if you don’t want them to. If you have a pair of sandals you want to be seen then do that last.

TIP THREE

Don’t know what to wear? Check out this previous blog post with last minute ideas. If you have a last minute outfit, because you don’t have enough for your senior session then add your special touch to it! Maybe add a prop to the outfit to add your personal touch to the classic outfit.

If you aren’t sure about a certain outfit, bring some classic outfits along!

TIP FOUR

Add hair accessories to an outfit! This has been such a huge trend and I am here for this one! I absolutely love hair scarfs, scrunchies, and hair clips. I love adding a matching hair scarf to an outfit and most stores have them. My favorite places to buy hair accessories from are Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, and Target.

TIP FIVE

Bring your high school sport to your senior session. If you were apart of sports, extra curricular, or clubs bring something from that to your senior session. If you have a lettermen, bring along your drumsticks or your softball glove. There are dozens of activities to be in throughout high school and it makes you who you are! Whenever I was in high school I was on the dance team, so I didn't , but I know of girls who took pictures in their uniforms at the football field. Maybe you don’t want to dedicated a whole outfit to your sport, just bring something as a prop!

WHY YOU SHOULD BOOK A FALL & SPRING SENIOR SESSION!

Today I will be giving you 5 reasons why you should book your Fall & Spring Senior Sessions!

EMP now offers packages including both a fall & spring senior pictures packages.

5 Reason why you need to book a Fall & Spring Senior Session!

  1. Having a Fall & Spring Session gives you more options for your senior pictures.

If you book just a spring session, you may be limited on location options or a limited amount of outfit changes. If you book 2 sessions that gives you more. Maybe you want to do senior pictures in Downtown Houston & in Galveston, well typically senior photographers don’t allow both, so book 2 sessions to make sure you get what you want.

  2. Normally seniors only book Spring Sessions, but the ones that chose Fall have their summer tan, and also the better lighting! During the Fall golden hour is at the best! During Springtime is rains and then gets sunny, but to guarantee the beautiful golden sun for your session book both!

  3. Book ASAP! Normally Senior Photographers dates are limited and their dates will book up fast for Fall & Spring. Even though it’s summer go ahead and get their pricing and a consultation booked with them to see your options and what they have available.

  4. You have more options when making your graduation cards! Plus, content all every around. You have so many options when you book 2 Senior Sessions, just think about how many senior pictures you will have. Typically I give around 60-75 pictures on a regular senior session, so double that! You are gonna have at least 5 pictures that are your favorite for your graduation announcements.

  5. Lastly, Life is busy in the spring for everyone, especially you & your photographer! That means book your Fall Senior Session, and secure your date that works for you the best during the spring! That way you know for a fact you will be taking senior pictures and you don’t have to worry about being last minute or have your mom yelling at you!

Having both a Fall & Spring Senior Pictures is so fun, especially when you build a connection and relationship with your photographer it isn’t awkward! All of my senior packages now offer complimentary professional hair and makeup, a one on one consultation with Emily, and so much more!

If you’re interested in booking for either the Fall or Spring go ahead and book your consultation today! We can show you have we offer and you can see if were a good fit for you. CLICK HERE to fill out our contact form!

4 TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT SENIOR PHOTOGRAPHER FOR YOU!

Helpful and useful tips when deciding on your senior photographer.

Senior photographers are everywhere at all different price points, styles, and experiences.

Today we will be giving you 4 tips to keep in the back of your mind when looking, choosing, and finally deciding on your senior portrait photographer. These tips are from a senior photographer & past senior stand point, so you get a true since of what to look for!

TIP 1: Find a photographer that you genuinely love their work.

When you are searching on Instagram, Twitter, Google, your friends, and etc find someone that you actually love their work! This just means that you value their work, and that you are booking with them for the right reasons. Most senior photographers specialize in SENIOR PHOTOGRAPHY, so they know what they are doing. Speaking for myself, when it comes to all my seniors I AM INVESTED! I love help planning, styling, and finding locations to match your style and personality.

TIP 2: Find a photographer that fits your aesthetic/style.

Most photographers have a style that you can easily tell apart from other photographers. Some are more light and airy photographers rather than other photographers like myself are more on the moody/darker photographer styles. When I was a senior, I did a mini session with my favorite local photographer. I admired her work for the longest and when she did mini sessions, I got my spot and did them! Let me tell you it was the best! I didn’t get the chance to have a full on senior session, because I was too busy with my nanny job and photography that I didn’t have time to take them. But looking back now only a year after graduating high school, I am still so in love with those pictures. I think by valuing her work so much, it brought me more value in those images, because she did them. by the way it was Payton Hartsell. So maybe you already follow a dozen senior photographers, do you like their work? Do you want to see yourself on their feed? Do you want them to capture your senior year? Ask yourself those questions and you will find the photographer right for you!

TIP 3: Find a photographer you like seeing content from.

This goes hand and hand with the previous tip, but is there a photographer you like seeing posts from? Whether that’s actual posts or Instagram stories, do you follow a photographer that does both of these regularly? and do you like seeing it? Do they seem like a good, nice, fun person to be around? ASK yourself these questions! Do you ACTUALLY like them and what they do? Maybe they have multiple accounts, do you follow all of them because you want to see more of their work? If so, that says a lot and that means you support their small business.

TIP 4: Find a photographer that you want to work with no matter what!

This is my last and final tip, but VALUE! Don’t book with a photographer, because they are cheap and they will give you unlimited outfit changes and locations. I’m saying this, because most senior photographers don’t offer that. Most senior photographers have limited dates and all those dates will be booked. If they have limited dates and you really want them, you typically will book with them as soon as possible. Finding a senior photographer that you value and want to work with is more important and will bring more value to your senior pictures!

In saying all of this, I just want all incoming seniors to realize that it’s okay to pay a little more for a better professional senior experience is normal and it’s okay.
